Building Distributed Applications over HTTP
Internet Applications with VFP Chapter 07.pdf
Sample Chapter 7 of Internet Applications with VFP: HTTP is much more than just a protocol used by the Web browser for transmitting HTML.
In this chapter I'll show you how to use HTTP generically from a Visual FoxPro client application to execute logic on a Web server that is also running Visual FoxPro. You'll see how to retrieve content and data over HTTP, fire logic on the server and handle bidirectional transfer of data using familiar SQL commands over HTTP. This approach allows you to build rich GUI applications that take advantage of the distributed nature of the Internet without having to conform to a limited HTML interface. Using the techniques described here, you can extend the reach of existing applications across the Internet with minimal amounts of code—using all native Visual FoxPro code.

Internet Application Technologies
Internet Applications with VFP Chapter 02.pdf
Sample Chapter 2 of Internet Applications with VFP: The first thing that you'll notice when starting to build Web applications is new terminology. Building Internet applications is more involved than building stand-alone applications because you have to deal with multiple environments simultaneously. With this additional complexity comes terminology. The bad news is that you have to become familiar with lots of three- and four-letter acronyms; the good news is that most of these technologies are easy to work with once you have a broad view of how they fit together. This chapter provides this broad overview. It talks about the technologies and information flow for distributed and Web applications, and discusses a number of the terms you need to know.
